With 5000 youtube subscribers, 500 monthly blog views and 7000 instagram followers gathered in just the past year. At 18 years old, British Beauty/Fashion/Lifestyle YouTuber and Blogger Phoebe Slee is one to watch out for.
You could tell straight away that she’s passionate about what she does as as soon as we sit down she just couldn’t stop chatting. Phoebe first became interested in vlogs when she turned to YouTube for makeup tips when she was 13 and described herself as being “totally obsessed ever since”. Her interest in blogging came a few years later when when she found blogs to read about makeup and fashion with her favourite blogger being Yanin Namasonthi and her favourite vloggers are the sacconejolys.
When I asked who her style icon was she replied “Hannah 'Cocobeautea’ has the most amazing style. So simple, minimal and everything is white, grey, black or nude”, giggling she added “And that’s all I like to wear, as you can see.” Dressed in what she called her “go-to off duty look”, an outfit stylishly compiled of black skinny jeans a white oversized t-shirt and metallic Birkenstock style sandals she looked chic as ever.
With her recent move to University, she doesn’t deny that keeping up to date with both uni work and social media has been a bit of a struggle. “To be honest I thought I was going to be able to manage it better than I have but it’s proven to be a lot harder than I thought. I work better in the evenings and feel a lot more motivated, so I film a lot at night under studio lights and try and film a load of videos at once so I always have something to upload when I’m busy doing uni projects.” Despite living the frugal student life however, she coyly mentioned how she’d rather spend her money on new clothes than food. Nevertheless, when I asked what two things she’d take to a desert island her first choice was “An endless supply of cereal, because I am obsessed. Golden nuggets to be exact.” proving that fashion doesn’t always come before food.
Regardless of her growing following, Phoebe’s still extremely down to earth. “I really like putting out content that people can relate to or being able to give advice. When I can help other people it really makes it seem like the effort I put in paid off, it's nice to see other people benefit from it as well as yourself.” Although, she doesn’t deny that blogging has some fab perks such as getting invited to events and meeting all the “big youtubers” such as Zoella, Alfie and Joe Sugg. “It's a great community to be in.” and I can’t deny I’m ever so slightly jealous.
Not only is Phoebe on her way to being a social media queen, she also has another secret skill. “I’m very into sport and have been since I can remember.” Phoebe’s been playing Ultimate Frisbee for Great Britain for the past 7 years and describes one of her best achievements as being “the youngest ever girl to get into the Under 17's squad at the age of 12.” When I asked if she’d ever consider doing vlog’s about sport and fitness with a cheeky smile she replied “Watch this space and you’ll soon find out.”
